Empowering People and Enriching Lives
Cebu Doctors’ University Alumni Association (CDUAA) in cooperation with Cebu Doctors’ University – Community Outreach Services (CDU-COS) conducts a Medical-Dental-Optical, Veterinary Services and Feeding Activity last July 30,2011 in Barangay Day-as, Cebu City.
In its continued aim of giving back to those people in need and embodying the theme of “Challenges, Achievements and the Path to Success”, CDUAA and CDU-COS went full force to Barangay Day-as’ gym early in the morning and readied the venue. When the outreach program officially started, people of all ages poured out to avail of services offered by the group.
Kids and adults alike lined up to where free servings of pospas or chicken aroscaldo are given. Some got their vital signs monitored and some to know their blood type. There were also those who fell in line to get a medical consultation and afterwards got free medicines from the medical dispensation corner. Adults who got problems with their eyes availed the eye check-up and got free reading glasses too. Simple tooth extraction was also available for those who wish to get rid of their pain-causing tooth. A short lecture on avoiding measles was also conducted. And just outside the barangay’s gym and positioned right across the street was where the tent of the Southwestern University (SWU) Veterinary team rendered their veterinary services to animals of different kinds.
The outreach program lasted the whole morning and ended with the presentation of certificates headed by the CDUAA President Dr. Alex Magalona, its office secretary, Mrs. Ma. Joceylyn P. Sulapas, CDU-Graduate School P.R.O, Mrs. Maribel Sesante, and CDU Dentistry Alumni Association batch 1987 president, Dr. Maria Martina Jordana to the Barangay Officials.
All Smiles For All Teeth
A successful dental mission was conducted by Cebu Doctors’ University Alumni Association (CDUAA) and Cebu Doctors’ University Dentistry Alumni Association (CDU-DAA) in G1:27 Tutoring Center, Barangay Nangka, Consolacion last March 10, 2012.
The Apollonians Batch 1987 of CDU-DAA headed by Dr. Maria Martina Jordana enlisted the help of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) of Cebu by asking them for dental supplies and medicines in which they gladly provided. She also led the team of dentists and CDU Dentistry Clinicians who attended and accommodated the children of Barangay Nangka. Dr. Alex Magalona, the CDUAA President on the other hand, directed the group of nurses who were in-charge for the registration and assisting of the dentists in action. The event would not be possible too without the involvement of Mr. Rick Harner and his wife, Mrs. Jiji Laprodes Harner, the founders of the center, who warmly welcomed and held a helping hand to the group throughout the activity.
A short lecture on how to take care of one’s teeth was given at the waiting corner when the activity officially started. After which the kids got freebies such as toothbrush and toothpaste. A total of 47 children got tooth extraction and 105 got dental prophylaxis or tooth cleaning. They also got free anti-biotic and supplementary medicine.
Kids and their parents showed gratitude when the dental mission reached its end. It was a day worth remembering and a winsome grin.
Tree Planting in Sitio Ekasig
Cebu Doctors’ University Alumni Association (CDUAA) in partnership with Cebu Doctors’ University Dentistry Alumni Association (CDU-DAA), “The Apollonians” does a tree-planting activity in Sitio Ekasig, Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City last August 7, 2011.
As a way of taking a step in environmental conservation, the group headed out to the bare land in the said barangay and planted a total of 100 Jackfruit tree seedlings. Though drenching in sweat from the steady heat of the sun, all were still able to put on a smile while planting the seedlings. After burying the seedlings down, the group then watered the plants and took a short break before calling an end to the short activity. |
